1. Skin Lesions

This can be important in many of the key autoimmune diseases in which autoimmune attacks center around collagenous tissues, which is why skin is often affected by this type of disease. Human skin works pretty well as a physical barrier to isolate the organism from the outer world. But when immune cells are activated inappropriately, skin problems can occur.

An example of that would be psoriasis, an inflammatory skin disease. Skin symptoms are, of course, the hallmark of the disease, and this is how psoriasis is diagnosed. The alterations are the consequence of an impaired process of epidermal regeneration. Symptoms of psoriasis include dry patches of skin covered with silvery dry scales, red papules, and pustules.

Celiac disease is another autoimmune condition in which we might see skin manifestations. Celiac disease is a permanent genetic illness represented by gluten intolerance. The skin lesions of patients with coeliac disease, such as papules and vesicles, may change. There is also erythema. So, if you have any of the skin mysteries above, gluten might be to blame!

Here, we can see that skin-related symptoms are seen in various autoimmune diseases. Skin changes can be in multiple forms depending on the disease, but when you notice something is not right with your skin, it can be a sign of an autoimmune disease.
